The hydrogeology Group offers a PhD fellowship to study water quality improvement during artificial recharge of aquifers under the Water-JPI European project MARadentro. As part of the project the candidate will collaborate with international and interdisciplinary partners.

The goal of the thesis is to assess the water quality improvement during soil passage and to optimize the reactive barrier design in order to improve the recharged water quality regarding contaminants of emerging concern (CECs), pathogens, and toxicity.

Application deadline: 19th January 2020.

Title: Water reuse: the risks of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) transfer from reclaimed wastewater to agricultural products

El plàstic s’ha convertit en el material preferit de la indústria, ja que és fàcil i econòmic de fabricar perquè dura molt temps. Cada any es produeixen 300 milions de tones de plàstic, de les quals s’estima que 8 acaben als mars i oceans del nostre planeta. Els danys físics que causen són evidents, però no hem d’oblidar del mal químic que provoquen. Molts dels additius que s’afegeixen als plàstics són substàncies d’alt risc per la salut, podent provocar càncer, infertilitat, malalties neurodegeneratives, obesitat, diabetis, etc.
