Extraordinary IQAC Seminar - Prof. Vernon Ward (University of Otago - New Zealand) on 2nd July

We are glad to announce an extraordinary seminar that will be given by Prof. Vernon Ward from University of Otago (New Zealand) which is an invited lecture from our colleague Pilar Marco.

Speaker: Prof. Vernon Ward (University of Otago - New Zealand))
Title:
Virus-like Particles as Carriers of Immunotherapy
Date: 2nd July 2019 10:00am
Venue: Sala d'Actes room CID-CSIC. C. Jordi Girona 18-26, 08034 Barcelona

Seminars are open to anyone. Punctuality is much appreciated since the seminar start at 10:00 sharp.

Research interests:

Viral pathogenesis, Molecular virology, Applied immunology, Host pathogen interactions

Current research:

Viruses are well known for their ability to cause disease, but the diversity of virus structure and replication offers many opportunities to exploit virus particles, their structure and their replication for beneficial purposes. My current research involves both the study of pathogenic viruses and the exploitation of virus properties for beneficial purposes.

Abstract:

Virus-like particles (VLP) are nano-particulate vaccines that can be manipulated to carry alternate immune epitopes. This presentation will investigate the use of VLP derived from Rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus (RHDV) as carriers for the generation of cell-mediated immunity for cancer immunotherapy. The production and modification of VLP through genetic modification and the conjugation of epitopes and other molecules for cellular targeting and adjuvant effects will be presented to illustrate the flexibility and effectiveness of the VLP platform. The use of nanofibres as a dry formulation for particulate vaccines will also be discussed.
