Conference at the Residence for Researchers: "Unexplored Antarctica" by Ramón Larramendi, with Jordi Dachs

Ramón Larramendi is one of the most recognized polar explorers on an international level, an activity that was pioneering in Spain. Throughout his life he has traveled more than 33,700 kilometers through the Arctic and the Antarctic without any motorized means.

He is the creator of the eco-vehicle Sledge of Wind, resorted to his last adventure "Antarctica Inexplored", 2,538 kilometers, along with 3 other explorers, crossing the Antarctic plateau, one of the most unknown regions of the planet, with a zero emission vehicle.

MIT and "La Caixa" select a project from the Biophysics of Lipids and Interfaces group of the IQAC-CSIC.

Olga López Serrano, from the Biophysics of Lipids and Interfaces group of the IQAC, has been selected, together with 11 other research projects, by the 'La Caixa' Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the second call of MIT-Spain 'La Caixa' Foundation Seed Fund.

The awarded project, "Advanced Lipid Nanostructures to overcome Blood-Brain-Barrier", of the research group led by Olga López, aims the design of lipid nanostructures to repair blood-brain barrier, the membrane that protects the brain. Nanostructures will also be designed to facilitate the access of drugs to the brain. The ultimate goal is to modify the permeability of the barrier to effectively treat diseases of the central nervous system, such as Alzheimer disease.
