Lean Library: an extension that integrates access to electronic resources into the workflow of researchers

The Network of CSIC Libraries and Archives is launching the new Lean Library service, a browser extension that integrates access to electronic resources contracted by the CSIC into the workflow of researchers by providing them with access to the information they need when working outside the CSIC network.

Even if the researcher is browsing or searching outside the Library Network channels, Lean Library provides access to full texts.

When the researcher is working outside the CSIC computer network (from home, in the field or visiting another university or research centre), Lean Library analyses the address and content of the web pages and detects when the researcher is visiting an electronic book or journal or an editor's portal that is subscribed to by the CSIC, it then presents a pop-up window that guides the researcher to access the full texts transparently using the PAPI Off-Campus Access Service of the Library Network.

When the full text of an article is not accessible to the CSIC on the platform being visited, Lean Library looks for other access alternatives, either Open Access or by subscription, and if they exist, allows access to them in a simple way. In the last case, it shows you an access so that you can ask for a copy of the article to the Document Retrieval Service.

To start using the Lean Library, all you have to do is

1. Download the extension by clicking here here (there are versions for Firefox, Chrome, Edge, Explorer, Safari and Opera)
2. Install and configure the extension by selecting CSIC as the institution

3. Start to work
