The Classics ‘Emerita’ collection is now available in Simurg
The Unidad de Recursos de Información Científica para la Investigación (URICI), in collaboration with the Bibiblioteca Tomás Navarro Tomás, makes available the digitised collection of Clásicos ‘Emerita’ in its portal Simurg, fondos digitalizados del CSIC.
The ‘Emerita’ Classics collection began in 1936 at the Centro de Estudios Históricos (CEH), with the publication of Virgil's Églogas annotated by Antonio Tovar. Printed in a user-friendly format and generally of limited length (usually between one hundred and one hundred and fifty pages), the collection was conceived primarily for university students. It was intended to offer editions for teaching use of the Greek and Latin classics, without translation, but with scientifically updated introductions and numerous linguistic, literary and historical notes. This project fitted in well with the objectives of the Classical Studies Section of the CEH, born with the aim of revitalising and updating Latin and Greek studies in Spain. The collection took its name from the journal Emerita, founded in 1933 as the main organ of scientific communication of the Section.
