Archivos de Literatura Contemporánea is the name given, since 1932, to the Philology subsection directed by Pedro Salinas within the Centro de Estudios Históricos. Its main objective was to publish the journal Índice Literario (Literary Index), whose purpose was to serve as a guide to contemporary literary production.

All the materials gathered between 1932 and 1936 to support the production of this journal and other publications on Spanish literature are part of the collection that bears the name of this section. The aim of Índice Literario was

to provide accurate and truthful information to the great public of Hispanists scattered throughout the world, who often do not receive up-to-date news of our production". It provides an analysis of literary works and critical judgments published in the press.

The Archives of Contemporary Literature (ALC) collection, kept in the Archives of the Center for Human and Social Sciences, Tomás Navarro Tomás Library, is made up of 25 installation units in which folders are kept with the name of a writer and all the press clippings that were gathered on the author and his work thanks to the work of researchers and auxiliary personnel such as María Galvarriato or José María Quiroga Plá.

Most of the clippings belong to periodicals such as Política, El Sol, Democracia (León), Ahora, Mundo gráfico or Luz, among others.

Although most of the folders are dedicated to compiling information on a single author, exceptionally, texts on other literary figures and movements are compiled.

The digitization and dissemination of Archivos de Literatura Contemporánea brings to the scientific community and the general public a wide range of information on publications by writers of the first half of the 20th century, some of whom have had great importance but others published few works and with little diffusion, which makes this archive a primary source for philological and literary studies of the 20th century.
