Subscription to the Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) has been extended to provide access to the entire CSIC community
The Journal of Visualized Experiments (JoVE) will be available to all CSIC centers and institutes starting in March 2026. This improvement over previous years allows the entire research community to benefit from one of the most important audiovisual repositories in the field of experimental methods across a wide range of disciplines, from life sciences and biomedicine to chemistry, physics, engineering, and environmental sciences.
The JoVE journal has been centrally subscribed to by URICI since 2010 for a group of CSIC centers. Over the years, both the number of centers and the subscribed sections of JoVE have gradually varied and expanded, always in response to the needs and demands of the research community. In recent years, access has been limited to the JoVE Research collection, restricted to 10 CSIC centers. The new JoVE Unlimited platform not only extends access to all centers but also adds more content, offering over 24,000 high-quality scientific videos covering research (JoVE Journal, Encyclopedia of Experiments) and education (JoVE Core, Science Education, Lab Manual).
Since 2006, JoVE has been the first journal to make biological experiments available for viewing. It publishes scientific articles in video format with the aim of improving scientific communication through the visual presentation of experimental procedures, thereby facilitating their understanding, replication, and adoption by other researchers. Each article combines video and text to rigorously document experimental protocols, data analysis, results, and technical considerations, offering a learning method that is particularly useful for complex or highly specialized techniques.
The JoVE format has the advantages of allowing direct observation of method execution, reducing the ambiguity of purely textual descriptions, and accelerating the learning of new techniques, especially in disciplines where experimental manipulation is critical. For these reasons, the journal has generated significant interest among researchers at numerous CSIC centers, beyond the group that initially subscribed. The growing demand has highlighted the need for broad and equitable institutional access.
