Artificial Intelligence, Libraries, and Archives: New Issue of Enredadera
Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer an emerging technology; it has become one of the driving forces behind the transformation of many aspects of our society, including scientific research. However, this technological revolution also poses significant challenges that undoubtedly affect our professional field of libraries, archives, and all the services they provide.
CSIC AI Decalogue
Issue No. 43 of Enredadera (July 2026) dedicates its thematic section EN DIRECTO to the theme “Artificial Intelligence, Libraries, and Archives,” drawing, on the one hand, on the course that URICI organized in March 2026 as part of the Training Office’s Plan titled “Applications of Artificial Intelligence in Libraries and Archives.” On the other hand, it draws on the CSIC’s recent publication of its Decalogue for the Responsible Use of Generative AI in Research and its CSIC Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2025–2030, through which the institution offers a series of guidelines and a roadmap regarding AI. It also includes an initial overview of Paperpal, an AI-based tool recently launched at the CSIC by URICI to support academic writing.
LA RED gives us a closer look at: Open Research Europe, a new open-access publishing platform; the digital evolution of the CSIC’s Historical Archives; a geolocation project for the Archive of Ethnography and Folklore of Catalonia; and the project “A Year of Curiosities.”
In “ASÍ SOMOS,” our libraries and archives share updates on the work carried out in recent months, including: the centennial of the Galician Biological Mission and the glass plate negatives it preserves, which have been digitized; the vinyl record collection at the Americanist Library of Seville; the history of the Zaidín Experimental Station, its library, and its archival holdings; a new digital portal featuring the CCHS’s Kurt Schindler Collection; a platform to highlight research data in the humanities and social sciences at the CSIC; and, finally, a brief overview of the projects and activities carried out at the EEA in 2025.
The final section, REVIEWS, features a moving and interesting novel based on the life of María Moliner and her dictionary project, as well as a curious and entertaining book in which, drawing on proper names that are uncommon today, the author humorously and poetically describes a characteristic trait she imagines for each character.
